How to make a medical mask
Cut a 25 x 18.5 cm rectangle out of the paper. From the wide sides of the top and bottom draw lines at a distance of 6 cm. In the middle, you will get a horizontal strip 6.5 cm wide. Draw a 12 cm wide vertical stripe in the center of the entire sheet. Divide the corner shapes by diagonal lines so that you get an octagon. Cut out the resulting template.
Cut a second rectangle measuring 14 x 12 cm. Divide it in half along a straight line. Draw vertical lines on the sides at a distance of 1 cm from the edges. Draw oblique lines inside the corner strips so that you get a hexagon, and cut it out.
Use these templates to cut two identical parts out of the fabric. Put the large parts on top of each other face-in and sew along the slanting lines. Turn the workpiece out and iron it.
Put two small parts together. On the straight sides, make marks in the center, and from them at the top and bottom — marks at a distance of 3.5 cm. Sew the fabric along the sides from the edges to these four dashes. In other words, there should be holes 7 cm wide on both sides. Turn out the blank, straighten the stitched sides and iron them.
Bend a large template along horizontal lines and attach it to a large fabric billet. Put one side of it on the curved part of the template and iron it. Repeat the same on the other side.
Remove the template and smooth the part again on both sides. Sew it along the long edges at some distance from the folds. Then open and iron again on both sides.
On the side of the resulting strip, attach a small part to the center and sew on the edges of the top and bottom. Then turn out the future mask and iron at the seams.
Turn the workpiece over and sew two parts together on one side at once. On the other hand, insert the wire to the fold and stitch the fabric in the same way. Double-fold the narrow edges of the workpiece and sew.
Cut two 25 cm long strips from the cord or ribbon. Insert them into the holes for the straps on the sides and tie them with strong knots. Insert the size filter inside the small part.
What to consider
World Health Organization it is recommended to wear a mask in two cases:
1. If you cough or sneeze.
2. If you are healthy but have close contact with a person with these symptoms.
No mask can protect you completely. But it will reduce the risk of infection if you wear it correctly, as well as regularly wash your hands with soap and water or treat with an alcohol-containing antiseptic.
The material from which you plan to make a mask must be:
1. Breathable. This is necessary so that you can breathe freely, and the face under the mask does not sweat.
2. Not rude. First, the rough fabric will irritate the skin. And secondly, it will not be able to repeat the shape of the face, that is, the mask will not fit tightly to the skin.
Try not to touch the mask while it is on your face. If you have to do this, be sure to wash your hands before and after.
As soon as the mask becomes raw (usually within 2-3 hours), replace it with a new one. Ideally, you should change the mask immediately after you have sneezed or coughed inside it. To do this, you should make several masks and carry them in a pack with you.
Fabric masks should be thoroughly washed in hot water with washing powder. It is not yet known at what temperature SARS‑CoV is destroyed‑2. Its closest relative SARS-CoV, which causes atypical pneumonia, died when heated to 56 °C within 15 minutes. Therefore, the hotter the water, the better.
After washing, when the mask is dry, iron it with a hot iron. The well-ironed accessory will be softer and will sit on the face tighter, without folds.
